We run a multi acre homestead in the rural woods, organic garden, raise chickens, dogs and teenagers.. with a whole lot of silliness, dry humor and real-life honesty along the way. We love the environment and wilderness life...

You won't find forced aesthetic or manipulating marketing here, but you will find humble, silly souls getting through it, just like you are. One hairbrained idea after the other...

Welcome To

Howling Winds Homestead!

(in cliff's notes)

Two kids from CA meet at age 10&13. Add some water balloon fights, skateboards, one prom, a rock and roll wedding, 3 amazing kids and a cross country move to CT, and here we are! After years of struggle/sacrifice, we bought a few acre homestead in March 2020, and are building our best life together, one amazing success and hilarious mishap at a time. (There may have been some tears lol)

Kick off your boots and come on in, drinks are in the fridge, goofyness and shenanigans on tap. Don't mind the skulls, Do mind the forge. Please pet the dogs.

November/December 2022

How are we almost at the end of the year!? (Cliche statement I know, but fitting none the less.) The garden beds have entered their slumber, with the greenhouse still helping the last of the tomato and pepper plants along. The gorgeous fall colors New England offers are almost all on the forest floor, and yes indeed, cold weather gear has been taken out. Snow is my favorite, so I am certainly not complaining. While we did not yield what we had hoped this year, we learned so much battling new pests, managing more plants and new species, and certainly did far better than last year. The plans for next year's grow season have already begun, and the chickens are much happier in their new coop.

As regulations have lifted over time, we have been getting our footing with our community (Finally! we bought our homestead in March 2020... yea I know...) and have made some great connections with local farms and our small town, opening up possibilities for expansion as well as community support. We have been enjoying putting our efforts there and have even more awesome plans for the future. The homesteading learning curve continues to be steep, but we have always wanted this life -long before it was a trend- and enjoy every splinter and aching muscle. (Ok maybe not the sore muscles, but we're working on manifesting the wood fired hot tub...) To be honest, this has been one of our best AND most trying/difficult years, (the economy/state of the world is no help in that area, as I know you all can relate, stay strong friends) and yet we continue to raise arms and fight for it happily, overcoming every damn time, be it by miles or the skin of our teeth. All of you, your orders, and your enthusiasm, mean more than you know.

One kid has adulted out on their own, and we are in our final year of homeschool for the other two. (Which naturally means I want another dog, much to my family's dismay...) We have been working offline on a few exciting developments we are hoping to enthusiastically share with you as the world wakes up and welcomes Spring. From our family to yours, we hope you are all safe and happy, and thank you for your support, you have kept us forging ahead with perseverance and gratitude.

In side news:

I continue to work on my book series with stacks of composition books full of dozens of future book ideas being added as I go along. Being a writer my whole life, finally braving the publishing  journey has been a scary endeavor, but I am thrilled, and so ready. Follow the links below if you like fiction, for updates and drop dates! Wildlife rehab certification steps are being checked off (Birds and raptors specifically) and I will be hunting soon. Grateful for these opportunities to help the environment and provide for my family sustainably.

THE old man is constantly working to fill his consistent Ax orders (as well as my never-ending honey-help-me list) and has ANOTHER round of incredible cleaver designs out once more, all while juggling his full-time job and my large needy dogs underfoot. Be sure to check in on his work, it is beautiful and the cleavers are *chefs kiss.

Hope you all have enjoyed your Fall season and have found great success in your adventures. There is room for all of us and I hope we ALL make it! Stay awesome.

Keep flowing with the seasons... and thank you for being here.
